Apple has just recently launched the first generation of Apple
watches- Apple Watch and Apple Watch Sport. Due to this dual launch of
Apple smartwatches everyone is wondering which are the differences
between the two products and which exactly would be better to buy.
First of all, let's find out exactly what's with the first Apple watches ever.
Apple Watch and Apple Watch Sport are technically the same product-
the only difference is the design. While Apple Watch aims to a glossy,
elegant finish, designed specifically for those who wish a dressy
smartwatch, Apple Watch Sport is well... sporty.
Apart from the design differences, the two watches are exactly the
same- there is nothing Apple Watch can do in plus of Apple Watch Sport;
they both have the same features, functions, battery life, applications
etc.
Yet, Apple launched two watches in the idea of fitting everyone's
needs. Therefore, Apple Watch Sport is a variation of Apple Watch,
designed specifically for those that wish to work outwhile still wearing
a watch or for those that simply have an active lifestyle and they need
something sporty to get around with, while still getting absolutely all
the features of the basic Apple Watch.
Now, let's see which are the things that make Apple Watch Sport
suitable for an active lifestyle and what exact design features make
Apple Watch look like a high-end products by comparing the two
products.
Price
Keep in mind that it is all about the design- you won't get any extra features if you buy the more expensive product.
The cheapest version of Apple Watch is being sold for around £180 more
than Apple Watch Sport- the start price would be £480, compared to £300
for Apple Watch Sport.
Depending on what kind of handband you choose for your Apple Watch, the
price can raise up to £950, this being the most expensive in this
category.
Display
Both Apple Watch and Apple Watch Sport have very resistant displays
that promise to be unscratchable for the first one and hardly
scratchable for the last one.
While Apple Watch Sport's display is made out of strenghtened Ion-x
glass, Apple Watch's display is made out of sapphire glass. About Apple
Watch's display Apple representants have said that it can't be
scratched, even if exposed to harsh conditions.
The displays look both nice, shiny and smooth, yet the polished
shappire glass shines twice as hard as the Ion-x glass in strong light,
offering an extra luxurious feeling to the Apple Watch.
The one disadvantage that can be listed for Apple Watch's shappire glass
display is that it might show washed colors due to the enhanced light
reflectionof the perfectly smooth surface.
Handband
If Apple Watch Sport comes with a universal Sport handband, sold in
white, black, green, blue or pink, if you decide to purchase an Apple
Watch you get the chance to choose your own handband. While the most
handbands are elegant choices made out of leather and metal, the options
are: the classic buckle, the milanese loop, the leather loop, the link
bracelet and the modern buckle.
Yet, if you do buy an Apple Watch Sport your options are not limited
to the handband provided in the package. Third-parties have in plan to
produce handbands and Apple watch accessories, so that you can change
your Apple watch's look without having to upgrade.
Currently, you can buy a separate Apple Watch Sport handband for £39.
Case materials
If the shape is exactly the same, the materials used are different from Apple Watch to Apple Watch Sport.
For Apple Watch, the case is made out of stainless steel case, while for Apple Watch Sport, out of aluminium.
An important difference between the two is the fact that due to the
aluminium case, Apple Watch Sport is lighter, weighting only 25 g,
compared to Apple Watch's weightof 40g. The difference is not
significant in numbers, but it can be very helpful if you do have an
active lifestyle, you practice sports or you are really a practical
person and you plan on wearing your Apple watch daily.
While the stainless steel case impregnates a sense of prestige, it
has it's disadvantages. Customers have previously remarked that the
stainless steel case is easily scratchable- although it is also simple
to erase the scratches.
Which one should you buy?
Well, if you do prefer a stylish product and you have enough money to
spend, you should choose Apple Watch. But, if you are an active person,
that prefers a cozy, practical watch instead of a dressy one, Apple
Watch Sport is the right one for you.
But even if you are attracted of Apple Watch's high-end finish, you
should consider the fact that this is only the first generation of Apple
watches and most probably Apple Watch 2 will be considerably improved.
Therefore, you should think twice before paying a large amount of money
for Apple Watch, when you can get the exact same features with Apple
Watch Sport, but for a lower price.
